El Camino Real District #20 AHEPA Scholarship Foundation
A Brief History

In 1959, spearheaded by several dedicated members of the AHEPA family, the dream of a scholarship program was realized. Members of the AHEPA family were given piggy banks and asked to save a penny a day. Thus, the program became known as the Piggy Bank Fund, a term still in use today.
In 1963 the Scholarship Fund began awarding scholarships from the income generated each year from these donations. As the fund continued to grow, the decision to incorporate was made in 1972.
In 1995, to better reflect our tax-exempt status, the corporation's name was changed to El Camino Real District 20 AHEPA Scholarship Foundation. As a tax-exempt foundation, the number of scholarships awarded is based upon the amount of interest derived from investments. The AHEPA Scholarship Foundation takes the stewardship of investments very seriously. Investments are professionally managed in conservative financial investments. The foundation's goal is to be able to provide a scholarship for all qualified applicants. Perpetual scholarship funds are established when a donor, or group of donors, deposits cash or securities with the AHEPA Scholarship Foundation.
2021, the Scholarship Foundation was approached by a separate foundation to establish and administer a scholarship program for them. After careful consideration, the Scholarship Foundation Board decided to partner with this anonymous foundation to disperse funds under the umbrella of the El Camino District 20 AHEPA Scholarship Foundation. Our Partner Grant Foundation then pledged to donate $100,000 per year for the next ten years to supplement our Scholarship giving. The following year, 2022, Undergraduate Scholarships were awarded, and a new Post Graduate Student Grant program was begun. 2022 and 2023 combined saw the distribution of over $200,000 scholarships and grants..
